In 2019, SAP released the Data Warehouse Cloud (DWC). There were two important milestones when the DWC was released: (1) release of the beta version in early 2019 and (2) general availability in November 2019.
Spaces are virtual work environments that enable data modeling, data integration and the creation of story dashboards for a specific user group . Very interesting here are the so- called Open - SQL schemes , which provide an open interface for data storage in a SAP Data Warehouse Cloud Space .
When it comes to the data modeling process, the Data Builder offers various options for integrating, transforming (syntactically and semantically) and then linking data (Figure 1). Data integration can be carried out via a CSV import, a graphical view or an SQL-based view.
In the Business Builder, the technical reference to the data can be created via business entities , such as items or customers , as well as fact tables containing key figures . The resulting business layer is decoupled from the data layer , so that a top-down modeling approach is possible, meaning that the department is independent of changes in the data layer .
The Explorer offers a very intuitive and quick way to find existing models, such as dimension and fact data models. These can be maintained with metadata (purpose, responsible teams/people, tags) and can be easily searched for and found using various filter options .
The Story Builder connects the Datasphere (formerly DWC) with the integrated SAC. This provides various functions for reporting and thus for visualizing key figures. If a dedicated SAC already exists, this can also be used as an alternative. Further information about the SAC can be found here.
